Barbara gave a wonderful workshop which included the history of swirlware , how to prepare colored clay, how to throw using colored clay to create swirls and striations, and lastly, how to carve through the clay to create even more interesting results.

Swirlware is made by combining contrasting colors of clay when throwing. In this demonstration three techniques were used to throw Swirlware. The first technique involved throwing one color on the inside of a bowl with multiple colors on the exterior. The second resulted in wide swathes of contrasting colors on a vase. The third and final technique creted thin striations of several colors.
