Joan’s pottery is the culmination of 25 years of working in her favorite medium.  Each piece is unique handmade and meant to be loved and enjoyed in daily use.  Joan’s pots reflect a varied interest in multiple firing techniques that include Japanese style Raku, Saggar, wood and oxidation firing.  All result in wonderful glaze and form variations.  When describing her work Joan says, “My forms are fairly simple, yet strong with minimal embellishments and uncomplicated glazes. Most of my work includes slip decoration in an effort to create a luscious and fanciful surface.  I try to make pottery that is successful in several ways:  comfortable to use, enjoyable to look at, and exciting to think about”.
