Handbuilding for Flowers

Wednesdays:  8 Weeks, 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  

Jan. 11, 18, 25, Feb. 1, 8, 15, 22,  Mar. 1

Cost:  $300  (includes clay, glaze and firing)

We will make all kinds of vessels relating to flowers, such as Ikebana, vases, and tiles. We will use slabs and extruded shapes for our projects.


Handbuilding with Earthenware

Tuesdays:  8 Weeks, 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  

Jan. 10, 17, 24, 31, Feb. 7, 14, 21,  28

Cost:   $300  (includes clay, glaze and firing)

We will use brown earthenware clay and terra sig.  This will be our first dive into earthenware clay.  We’ll use colored terra sig, low-fire glazes, tacks and other good stuff! The last 3 weeks will be used for your own projects.  “I’ve always wanted to make a . . .


Beginner –Intermediate Handbuilding Class

January 12th – March 2nd

Cost:   $300  (includes clay, glaze and firing)

In this class we’ll be using different handbuilding techniques such as coil and slab building as well as several surface decoration techniques to explore the endless possibilities that clay has to offer.   You’ll be making a variety of fun and useful pieces.  You’ll work on flat forms like plates and trays, vertical forms such as vases, handled mugs, and jars as well as lidded forms like a sugar or cookie jar or toothbrush holder.   You’ll use texture, colored slips and glazes to enhance the surface design of each piece.


Beginner – Intermediate Throwing Class

Tuesdays:  8 Weeks, 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.  

January 10th – February 28th

Cost:   $300  (includes clay, glaze and firing)

This class is for anyone that wants to learn to throw on the potter’s wheel and for those who want to improve their throwing skills.   Our focus will be on centering, pulling up and creating even walls.  Everyone will work at their own pace to progress to larger and more advanced forms.  We will also work on making and attaching different types of handles.  You’ll learn how to trim your work and, finally, glaze your pieces for their final firing in our electric kilns. 


How to Throw Drinking Vessels

Designed for Intermediate to Advanced students

Instructor:  Colleen O’ Sullivan

Wed.:  8 Weeks, 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Jan. 11 – March 1

Cost: $350   (includes clay, glaze and gas firing)

This class will concentrate on making drinking vessels on the wheel. Learn to make sets of mugs, explore many different shapes, make lids to keep your coffee/tea hot while you run a quick errand and get comfortable pulling handles off the pot. From mugs we’ll move on to discover easy ways to make simple cup shapes, with discussions of yunomi vs. tea bowl and we’ll finish with goblets for everyday and for special celebrations.
